Daytona Beach, FL — On Thursday evening, Daytona Beach Fire Department (DBFD) units responded swiftly to a structure fire at 600 Jimmy Ann Drive, located within the Lake Forest Apartments complex. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke and flames emerging from the roof of a multi-unit apartment building.

Firefighters made immediate entry to conduct a primary search, confirming that all occupants had safely evacuated. Hose lines were deployed to the roof, and crews used saws to cut through structural barriers to reach and extinguish the fire.

Florida Power & Light (FPL) arrived on scene and secured electricity to the building. Residents reported hearing a loud bang moments before the fire ignited. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Two apartments sustained significant fire, smoke, and water damage. A total of nine displaced residents are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

After investigation, officials determined the cause of the fire to be a lightning strike.
