Beyond the ordinary

Edgewater, FL — A growing number of parents are raising serious concerns about the treatment of students—particularly students of color—at Silver Sands Middle School. Allegations of racial bias, intimidation, and dismissive behavior by staff and administration have surfaced, prompting calls for accountability and reform.

One parent, who has previously filed multiple complaints with the school board regarding the treatment of their children, reports that the issues remain unresolved. “Despite repeated outreach last year, the board has failed to take meaningful action,” they said. “Now, just two days into the new school year, another incident has occurred—and the silence from leadership is deafening.”

The parent, who is also a community advocate, is urging others to come forward if they or their children have experienced similar treatment. “No child should ever feel fearful, targeted, or diminished because of the color of their skin,” they emphasized. “We must be the voice for our children.”
