Elizabeth Martinell, a first-time author and longtime resident of New Smyrna Beach, has captured hearts with her debut children’s book, The Adventures of Bravo and Buster at New Smyrna Beach. The story follows two spirited pups—Bravo and Buster—on a whimsical journey through the coastal town, delighting young readers with sandy escapades, friendly sea creatures, and nods to local landmarks.

Published in late 2024, the book has quickly become a favorite among families and educators for its blend of playful storytelling and regional charm. From Flagler Avenue to dolphin sightings, Martinell’s tale celebrates the beauty and community spirit of New Smyrna Beach through the eyes of two curious dogs.

Martinell, known affectionately as “Beth” by locals, brings a rich personal history to her work. A former bartender and medical professional turned artist, she now channels her creativity into writing, oil painting, and furniture refurbishing. Her inspiration for the book came from her own pets—Bravo and Buster—and her grandson, Joseph Felice Martinell.

📚 Community Engagement

Martinell has been actively sharing her book at local events, including readings and signings at The Hub on Canal. Her August 27 appearance featured a live reading, book signing, and arts-and-crafts workshop for children, drawing families from across Volusia County.

“I wanted to create something that not only entertains but also connects kids to the place they live or visit,” Martinell said. “Bravo and Buster are more than characters—they’re ambassadors of joy and curiosity.”

📖 A Growing Legacy

With glowing reviews and growing demand, Martinell is already hinting at future adventures for Bravo and Buster. Parents and children alike are eager to see where the pups will wander next—perhaps deeper into the mangroves or onto a paddleboard with pelicans.

For now, The Adventures of Bravo and Buster at New Smyrna Beach remains a beloved tribute to a town that’s as warm and welcoming as its author. You can explore more about the book and upcoming events on Martinell’s official site.
