
The New Smyrna Beach Police Department has officially welcomed William “Bill” Reid as its new Deputy Chief of Police, marking a significant milestone in the agency’s leadership. With nearly three decades of law enforcement experience, Reid brings a wealth of expertise, innovation, and dedication to public service.
๐ฎ A Career Built on Service and Leadership
Deputy Chief Reid transitions to NSBPD from the Coral Springs Police Department in South Florida, where he most recently held the rank of Major in the Patrol Operations Division. His responsibilities included overseeing Road Patrol, the Traffic Unit, Body Worn Camera administration, and the management of fleet and facilities—key operational components of the department.
Reid’s law enforcement journey began in 1996 with the City of Pinellas Park, followed by a long and distinguished tenure at Coral Springs PD starting in 1997. His rise through the ranks included pivotal roles such as Sergeant of Tactical & Gang Units, K-9, and the Special Victims Unit. He also served as a Property Crimes Detective, tackling complex cases of burglary, grand theft, and fraud.
๐ Specialized Experience and National Collaboration
Throughout his career, Reid has contributed to high-level collaborative efforts with federal and regional agencies. His assignments have included work with the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Multi-Agency Gang Task Force, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. His 13-year tenure on SWAT, culminating as Executive Officer, and his role in developing the Civil Unrest and Tactical Support team underscore his tactical acumen and leadership.

Before entering law enforcement, Reid served in the U.S. Air Force as a Security Police Officer during the Gulf War era. His commitment to service has earned him numerous honors, including two Meritorious Service Awards, five Exceptional Police Initiative Awards, and the prestigious 2021 Broward Sheriff’s Advisory Council Medal of Valor. He has twice been named Supervisor of the Year and contributed to CSPD’s Unit of the Year in multiple years.
๐ Academic Excellence and Professional Development
Deputy Chief Reid holds a Master of Public Administration from Troy University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. He is a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police (Session 94) and the Southern Police Institute’s Command Officers Development Course (75th Session).
