NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL — The City of New Smyrna Beach is thrilled to announce the grand reopening of the beloved 27th Avenue Park playground, set to be celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 2 at 9:00 a.m. Families, residents, and community leaders are invited to gather and mark this exciting milestone together.
Originally opened in 2019, the playground was funded in part by a $220,000 ECHO grant from the County of Volusia and designed with inclusive, ADA-accessible features to ensure that children of all abilities could enjoy the space. Large shade sails were installed to provide comfort and protection from the Florida sun, making the park a favorite destination for local families.
However, the playground sustained significant damage during last year’s hurricanes, prompting a months-long restoration effort by city staff. Their dedication has resulted in not only a full recovery but also enhancements that elevate the park’s appeal and functionality.
One standout feature of the upgraded playground is the installation of vibrant new shade sails, proudly designed in New Smyrna Beach High School’s “Cuda Pride” colors. These sails serve as both a practical addition and a bold tribute to local spirit and pride.
“The reopening of the 27th Avenue Park playground marks more than just the return of a play space,” said NSB Public Works Director David Ray. “It symbolizes resilience, community pride, and our commitment to creating safe, fun, and welcoming places for families.”
The ribbon cutting will take place at 27th Avenue Park, located at 3701 S Atlantic Ave, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169. The event is open to the public, and families are encouraged to attend, explore the refreshed playground, and celebrate the return of a cherished community space.
