Cypress Park Begins Outdoor Upgrade Project with New Fitness and Playground Equipment

Published on August 27, 2025 at 12:32 PM

Work is officially underway on a series of outdoor improvements at Cypress Park, bringing new exercise and playground equipment to the south end of the beloved community space. The upgrades are part of Daytona Beach’s ongoing commitment to enhancing public recreation and promoting healthy lifestyles across all age groups.

City crews began installation early this week, with new features including a decline bench, leg lift station, and flex wheel for adult fitness, alongside modern playground equipment designed for children ages 2 to 12. The additions aim to make the park more inclusive and engaging for families, seniors, and fitness enthusiasts alike.

Located at the corner of George W. Engram Boulevard and Nova Road, Cypress Park is a historic green space known for its walking paths, open lawns, and community events. The park remains open daily from sunrise to sunset throughout the construction period, with minimal disruption to existing amenities.

🛠️ A Legacy of Recreation and Renewal

Cypress Park has long served as a cultural and recreational hub for Daytona Beach’s west side. Originally established in 1929, the site includes the Cypress Street Recreation Center and Aquatic Center, both of which have deep ties to the city’s African-American heritage.

The current upgrades align with the city’s newly adopted Parks & Recreation Master Plan, which emphasizes revitalizing existing parks and expanding access to outdoor wellness opportunities.

📣 City Statement

“This project reflects our belief that parks are more than green space—they’re places of connection, healing, and growth,” said a city spokesperson. “We’re proud to invest in Cypress Park and ensure it continues to serve our residents for generations to come.”
