Operation Heat Index Nets 12 Arrests in Daytona Beach Prostitution Sting No Human Trafficking Identified, VSO Reports

In a concentrated effort to combat human trafficking during peak tourism and event season, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office (VSO) conducted a three-day operation from Thursday through Saturday in the Daytona Beach area. The initiative, titled Operation Heat Index, resulted in the arrest of twelve individuals on prostitution-related charges.

According to VSO officials, each person arrested was interviewed by detectives trained to identify signs of trafficking or coercion. Investigators determined that all individuals were participating in prostitution voluntarily, and no evidence of human trafficking was found.

In several cases, detectives discovered personal-use quantities of controlled substances including cocaine, fentanyl, suboxone, and prescription pills. Those individuals were additionally charged with drug-related offenses.

The operation was funded through a grant from the Florida Sheriffs Association, part of a statewide strategy to increase law enforcement presence and investigative capacity during high-traffic periods such as summer weekends and special events in Volusia County.

Sheriff’s officials emphasized that the goal of Operation Heat Index was not only to enforce existing laws but also to identify and assist potential victims of trafficking. While no trafficking was uncovered in this instance, VSO stated that such operations remain critical in maintaining vigilance and offering support services when needed.
