Daytona Beach, FL — A Mainland High School teacher was arrested on August 19 following a domestic dispute that escalated into physical violence, according to Daytona Beach Police. The incident occurred at the alleged victim’s residence and stemmed from an argument over infidelity.

Lori Maree Coombs, 56, was charged with felony aggravated battery on a person 65 years or older. Police responded to the home on August 18, where the 77-year-old victim reported that Coombs, his former romantic partner, had come to retrieve her belongings. The two had been in a relationship for two years, and tensions flared when Coombs accused the victim of infidelity.

According to the arrest report, Coombs struck the victim with a closed fist during the argument, causing a small laceration with her fingernails. Coombs denied entering the home or striking the victim, claiming instead that he made a sexual remark and scratched her arm while reaching for a pair of socks.

Coombs was released on her own recognizance and is currently prohibited from being on the Mainland High campus while the investigation is ongoing. Volusia County school officials have notified families of the arrest, citing Florida law that requires disclosure of such incidents involving school personnel.
